Local folklore credits the construction to a builder named P. K. Appuhami, who allegedly collaborated with British engineers. While there is no documented evidence supporting his involvement, the legend persists as a part of the area’s cultural heritage.

Construction coincided with World War I, during which steel intended for the bridge was reportedly redirected to British wartime projects. This challenge led to an innovative solution: the bridge was built entirely of stone bricks and cement without steel reinforcement, except for the rails and pins.
